I love the finish on the other side, but the craters on the outside didn&#8217;t seem to &#8220;go&#8221; with it.<\/p>\n<p>I sanded and sanded with a multi-function tool and only got so far. The&nbsp;results weren&#8217;t&nbsp;very satisfying after a lot of work.<\/p>\n<p>Enter mach\u00e9 clay&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 375px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"style=\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chirphopstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/castpaper_ptlcover2-400x300.jpg\" alt=\"cast paper bowl partially coered with papier mach\u00e9 clay\" width=\"375\" height=\"280\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cast paper bowl partially covered with papier mach\u00e9 clay<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In the photo, the bottom is left undone, so you can see the difference in the surface texture.<\/p>\n<p>You just spackle the clay&nbsp;on, smooth until it&#8217;s the way you like and let it sit to dry.<\/p>\n<p>If this wasn&#8217;t covered in&nbsp;gesso, it would dry even faster. It&#8217;s also a lot&nbsp;sturdier and still very lightweight.<\/p>\n<p>More sanding takes it even further (and brings out that delicious baby oil scent).<\/p>\n<p>All that&#8217;s left is sanding, decorating and a finishing sealer.<\/p>\n<p>This material takes acrylic paint and varnishes beautifully.
